Birthday Quarantine Motion Graphic

Overview

With the quarantine and stay-at-home orders placed across the globe due to COVID-19, many celebrations have been canceled. The challenge was to create a 30-60 second motion graphic that relates to how our social lives have been affected by these changes.

Birthday Quarantine Motion Graphic

PROJECT SUMMARY

My goal was to empower and encourage people to stay connected, social and have fun with friends/family despite the stay-at-home order through the use of technology. I wanted to focus on a narrative that follows a character making the most of the quarantine by hosting a video call with friends to celebrate their birthday.

GRAPHIC ILLUSTRATIONS

My visuals were largely inspired by flat, minimal design to keep elements clear and simple—while allowing more control in animating the characters. I also wanted to keep a light-hearted and bright visual language to match my message of empowering others to stay connected and have fun remotely.
I decided to instead let the animation tell its own story rather than doing a voice-over. With a clear plot, the use of text messages, and facial expressions of characters, I was able to convey what I needed for the audience to understand the movies of the narrative.
I stuck with adding text at the end to cement my message and carry it home with "Stay Connected" as a way to advocate for making the most of circumstances by keeping in touch with friends and family. Additionally, it was a way to remind people that it's still possible to have some fun, despite being stuck at home.
