USC Annenberg

Overview

This page is currently a work in progress.

USC Annenberg Center of Communication Leadership and Policy (CCLP) needs a website to host their new report fighting against misinformation and simplifying when, where, and how to vote.

The Voter Communications Task Force is led by former Governors Brian Sandoval (R-NV) and Jack Markell (D-DE), and is generously funded by Google through the USC Election Cybersecurity Project.

USC Annenberg - Voter Communication

PROJECT SUMMARY

I created a welcoming, clear, non-partisan brand identity and then developed the website UI design and interactions using WordPress and the website builder Elementor Pro to make it responsive.

After finishing the design and development, I continued to make edits as requested and maintained the website with updates and troubleshooting.

*Currently, the website is no longer active due to the end of the project.

Problem

Background
In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic was changing when, where, and how we vote. More than 500,000 mail ballots were rejected in the primaries, and people are concerned about how to make their votes count.
A record number of registered American voters will have the right to cast their vote from home in November 2020. But 58% of voters under 35 do not understand what they need to vote by mail.
Goal
USC Annenberg needs a website built to host their report that answers questions about how, when, and where to vote.
  • The website needs to be able to host a lot of information.
  • The website needs to host a digitized version of the report in certain sections such as its Resources, and Appendix.
  • They want the brand to remain neutral, modern, yet simple so audiences who are not experienced in technology can navigate it easily.

Solution

APPROACH
USC Annenberg needed a non-partisan and representative website for their report that can be updated easily with new information that comes up.
  • I used Elementor Pro and its modular building process to easily update the site as writers send me content.
  • I focused on making call-to-action buttons and text clear and simple.
  • I created a custom alphabetical way of navigating through resources and tables of contents to split up large amounts of text.
